Most Current Testimonials Tue, 29 Jan 2008 04:11:12 +0300 From: "Name" To: director@militaryjobhunts.com Subject: It paid off Randall, Greetings! You did my resume a couple months ago and did a terrific job on it. I was working at KBR in Afghanistan and felt some negativity towards all the purging they were doing towards American hires. I eventually got hired by L-3 COM which I was extremely happy with. As it turns out they have lost the contract or are protesting, whatever, etc, etc. I am currently working in HQ here in Bagdad and would like to continue to stay in theatre here. I am requesting the same asistance you gave me last time on updating my resume. I have enclosed the last resume I used ( which you did) with another attachment of the job I currently have. Please let me know if you can be of assistance with this or recommend me someplace that can if you no longer are doing this sort of thing. Once again thanks for the help last time and I wanted you to know that because of you it paid off. Respectfully, D.Z, Ex-Army, Overseas Contractor,
"Name"
Randall,
I wanted to give you an update on my job hunt status. On Tuesday 24
April I
began posting my resume to some major sites
(monster.com/clearancejobs.com
etc). As of this moment (26 April) I have received at least 5
responses
from recruiters and hiring agents. I assume this is an initial flood
from a
new resume being posted, but wanted to thank you. I have spoken to
people
in my situation who had resumes posted for months without a single
response,
5 in 24-48 hours is way beyond my expectations. I will also note I
have
been positively contacted by several other agents I directly submitted
my
resume to. All told as of this moment I have 7 leads with 48 hours
exposure
time. I did not attempt to write a resume on my own, but I truly doubt
I
would be getting this kind of response without your assistance.
Thank you, and I will keep you up to date on my career status.

I have been frustrated with not finding the "right" position to use all of my talents and finally decided I would just apply for all open positions in the paper last week, for two reasons, one I need to work and two I need a paycheck. I figured I could take an entry level position and still look for a better job, but at least I would be working. One of the reception positions I applied for responded and ask me to come in for an interview the following day, it was with a law firm that specializes in military law. I went in and I instantly liked the office, atmosphere and the office manager, which was the wife of the founding partner/lawyer. she and I talked about my qualifications and she said she was not going to hire me because I was way over qualified, which I was, and we talked about how they needed my skills but since I have no law background that there was no place for her to use me. I thanked her and asked her to keep my resume and to pass it to any of her associates or contacts she thought might be able to use my skills. I left feeling very disappointed and frustrated.
I had some errands to run before my next interview for something I really wasn't interested in and when I came out of the store there was a voice mail on my phone from the lawyer!! He said he was sorry he missed me, that his wife had just brought him my resume and he wanted me to come back in his office and talked to him, I did and got hired on the spot for a job they hadn't even advertised. They felt my skills were exactly what they needed and the lack of law knowledge was not going to be an issue, they needed someone with military back ground and military contacts and admin knowledge. Starting salary is good and will bring my back to my active duty pay, after 90 days that will be increased. It is a very small law office, very warm and friendly family atmosphere and I felt like I would fit right in. All of this is due to the resume you wrote, they hired me off of the strength of that resume, because when I returned he had already made up his mind. The job is interesting, diverse and challenging and I know I will like it.
thanks again

Randall,
Sorry for the slow response. Everything is going good, I've already
had employers contact me, no offers yet but it will probably happen soon.
Your service is awesome, I've already recommended you to a couple of my
buddies. Thanks for your help.
(NOTE: This person get employer response 2 weeks after purchasing the Job Assistance service.--MilitaryJobHunts)
Randall,
I updated Monster, Careerbuilder, and Yahoo Hot Jobs today and the response I'm getting from my resume is out of control. Completely different than the resume I wrote myself. I feel like I'm soon going to have to start beating 'em off with a stick. I've got two interviews scheduled for tomorrow alone. Now I'm in a tough situation because I'm going to have to make a decision between them where as a week ago I would have taken anything that came along. You really are are good at what you do!
Resume looks great, I thank you so much.
I received a conditional offer of employment from BNSF (barring physical and background check). Whoo Hoo!!!
I also received a call from IR and they are preparing an offer for me. I should know something on that soon. I'll keep you posted.
Randall,
Thanks for the career counseling. I did what you said and found out
from JCI
that I am one of two candidates they have chosen. There is only one
position
however. The plant manager is sending my resume and contact info to
their
corporate offices for follow up. He said that someone from corporate HR
would be calling me.
It sounds like they will be making offers to both of us and whoever
accepts
the lowest compensation package will be hired. Does that sound right to
you?
Even before I went there they asked my how much money I wanted. I told
them
I was looking to get in the $80,000s. That is not a high amount of
money for
a staff level position in automotive. I estimate that generally the pay
is
about $95-$110. What do you think?
As far as you doing my resume, I want to continue with that, I don't
have a
job and your career counseling alone is worth $300.
Much Thanks,
J.

Hey Randall,
You did a great job making my resume look presentable. How did you get so good at resume fixing? I still have to get it send to security so to see if they need to make any changes. That will be the real final draft. I quess I really don't know how to present myself on paper.
Thank you,

Randall,
Hello, I just wanted to thank you again for getting me responses to my
job
seach. I am happy to inform you that I've been offered a job at Westar,
in
Huntsville. I could'nt have done it without your assistance. I do have
a
question about "pay negotiations" right now they have made me an offer,
but I
would like your opinon on this matter if you don't mind.
To: director@militaryjobhunts.com
Well Randall their final offer is 65K, I assume because my semi-monthly
pay
went from $2166-$2291 a $125 diff that came out to $3k year. This is my
net
figures. And you know your right, I will get my foot in the door, and
hopefully move up in salary. Thanks Donald.

I'm glad the money thing is now sauced out in my head too. I realize what kind of salary I'm shooting at and am fine with it. 50-60 is good.
I called Life Cycle Engineering and she said she didn't realize that I wasn't local and they wanted someone to start right away. She said to call her when I got back to PA - there might be another position opening around then.
I called about the CAT job twice but got an answering machine. I left a message both times and in the end said I will call him tomorrow at 1130 to talk to him. I said to email me if that wasn't convenient. Actually I'd really like this job - it sounds right up my alley. We'll see.

require construction experience. I am looking for several Labor
Foremen
at this time and I would be happy to talk to the gentleman that this

If you would be so kind as to send me the contact information for this

that she can review the application and then contact him.

Randall,
Just when I started to doubt and think that maybe I was under qualified; Company calls and I had a great initial interview, they want to set up a phone interview with their senior project manager. Afterwards, the HR manager mentioned an interview when I get back [from overseas]. Their salary range is the mid forties to the low fifties. Does that sound reasonable for the job title? Im very excited and looking for any advice you may offer. Have a great day and thanks for all your help Randall.

Yes, I read your article on basic and advanced techniques for effective
resume writing. My question is concerning any references you may have
to
companies that specialize in these career data files. I love the
concept
and I think it could work well for me, however, I do not feel confident
in
my own writing abilities. Could you point me in the right direction?

Name,
Thanks for your email, and compliment, as well.
We specialize in this type of resume writing or
rewriting. In fact, I have rewritten a lot of
Supply/Logisitics resumes. They are a popular customer
of MilitaryJobHunts.com.
Our process is very structured and gets results.
In rewriting the resume, we review your career goals,
do business research to investigate your industry
sector and build the resume around your goals and the
industry, including keywords commonly used.
The resume will go through 3 drafts:
*Draft 1: the information-gathering draft. In this
draft we gather most of your basic resume and career
information.
*Draft 2: the focusing draft. In this draft we focus
the resume to a specific industry or position and
deepen the resume detail to enhance its computer
search-ability to optimize online job hunting.
*Draft 3: the clean up draft. In this draft, we edit
and rewrite your resume narratives to eliminate
unnecessary military jargon and to ensure it is a
complete record of your accomplishments.
*Final Draft: we take Draft 3 and edit it to create 3
versions: a long, medium and short version. This is
done to make the document adaptable to a variety of
situations (e.g. sometimes you only need 1 page
qualification brief and other times you need a 3-page
detailed record.)
If you are interested, and want to get started, please
visit this page on our website:
http://www.militaryjobhunts.com/resume1.html
After completing the process, we will contact you to
begin (usually 24 hours).
If you have any questions, feel free to email me.
Thanks For Serving Our Country.

This will be an original resume. I work in the logistics and planning

working specicically with supply. As a warehouse chief, and the local
purchasing officer. I am looking for a position with a DOD contractor
or a

abroad in
a non hostile enviornment. Thank you for your help, I look forward to

looking
for with the exception of it being a stateside position. To explain
your
first comment about gaining a lot of skills in a short period of time,
this
is my response. I am a reservist that is true, I represent buyers and
sellers in the real estate market as a civilian and I didn't think that
it
was relevant to the position I am currently seeking. That is why there
are
gaps in my employment. Within those gaps I was working as a sales

the civilian sector. As a reservist on drill weekends I was the

From: Name
Randall,
I appologize for the hold up. I just found out that my job is going to
be
changing here. I'm now going to be the Supply Chief until I
leave
in March. Generally that doesn't happen to a guy of my rank in the
Marine
Corps, but this is a special circumstance. Having said that, I will
have my
billet description to you on the next draft we work on, I was also
waiting
to get a fitness report for this past quarter which reflects what I've
been
doing here since this past june. the previous fitreps, I'm working on,
I
didn't bring them out here(dumb move) so I'm trying to get them faxed.
Here is what my Billet accomplishment say for this past quarter.
-Supervised and improved the operation of the warehouse/issue point;
specifically, he reorganized all containers, thus improving efficiancy,
established a care-in storage program, and established daily operating
proceedures that were not previously in place.
-Conducted an inventory of storage facility and
established an
inventory report of all items available for issue.
-Successfully processed over $200,000 in system requisitions and over
$250,000 in local purchases; responsible for improved delivery and over
$15,000 in savings through personal negotioation with local vendors and
execution of blanket purchase agreements.
-Analyzed usage data for all consumable supplies ans established
stockage
levels and replenishment plan; provided this data to the local GSA
store(GSA
is a civilian supply point set up to save money on office consumables
rather
than paying for them through local vendors) thus reducing inventory.
-Facilitated disposal of over 700 unserviceable items.
-Initiated a software tracking system for all local purchases.
these are the accomplishments for my other job listings.
[Other Duty Station],
-Responsible for standing up completely new supply accounts and
managing
them. The key is that I did all of the ground work to actually open
these
new accounts.
- Was soley responsible for the safe return of over 3.6 million dollars
worth of supplies from in theater back to their respective reserve
sites
across the states, this included artillery, tank trucks, weapons etc.
I
recieved an Achievement medal for that.
-I also implimented a manual system for logging all of our transactions
allowing us to research our progress and any deficiencies.
[Civilian Employer Name]
-the biggest one that stands out in my mind was that my department was
the
one and only department that didn't run out of any of our weekly
advertised
sales items. Only because I changed our allotment specifically for
that
christmas rush. It was for the weekend before christmas. In retail
sales
that's usually a madhouse weekend, I ordered more of what I knew were
going
to be sales items and we had no customer complaints as a result, and
the
residual was not much at all.
-I also began giving required classes on salesmanship and suggestive
selling
that resulted in an 18% increase of sales after 3 months of this
training.
The increase held until I left the company.
You asked about what I was doing up until April of 2002, I was a
student at
[College Name] as well as a reservist
in the
Marine Corps. I worked some jobs but nothing relevant to logistics or
supply. Correction, I worked as an associate for [company name], lots of
stocking
involved but i doubt that will help, I don't even remember the dates.
I studied Business from Aug '00 to about May '02. I believe I
completed
like 22 credit hours.
yes I am familiar with MS project.
DASF- Due And Status File it's a Marine specific software that is used
to
track requisitions and it generates status on items that have been
ordered.
This system is used for mostly tactical or SL-3(component parts) gear
that
has to be purchased through military sources. Reports can be generated
off
of the DASF and then compared with on hands and such. Let me know If
you
need more info on that.
ULLS-S4
LMP
are not Marine software packages but I believe ATLASSS is the same, as
well
as MIMMS, just a diferent name, you tell me what would be mostly
recognized.
I forgot to mention I've done an advanced Warehouse proceedures course
as
well.
Clarification #1
that is incorrect, the last job is my current job in [location], I will be
done
in March of 2006, I must have but 2005 by accident.
Clarification #2
I joined the Marine Corps in may of 2000, as a reservist, I stopped
attending [college] in '02 and that was because I was activated. I'm not
sure
if I explained this to you earlier but the dates i gave were for my
periods
of active duty in support of OEF. While in [duty station] I did a
short
tour in Iraq and finished the activation for the year. when I returned
to
reserve status i began working in real estate and served as my unit's
logistics advisor. The position I'm looking for in logistics might not
require my real estate info, but If you think it will qualify as valid,
I
will gladly submit that to you.
Education
I graduated from[school name] with an honors Diploma in
[location] '00.
Thanks for your continued patience and agaion, I appologize for the
delay.
Please let me know if you need more information.

I'm sending my resume and coverpage. My resume is fiarly [sic] recent, but I have been doing Sarbannes-Oxley for a year.
I would still like to do technical work.

[Name],
First off, good to hear from you!
I received your cover letter and email.
I briefly looked over the documents.
The letter reads like a quick email note to a recruiter. How have you gone about securing work? Recruiter? Agency? Online Job Boards?
Are you looking for another Sarbannes-Oxley project? Or, are you open at this point?
The resume needs work, specifically on your most recent positions. When would you like the resume completed?

Randy,
How have you gone about securing work?
Monster, DICE, buddies.
Are you looking for another Sarbannes-Oxley project?
Not really. If that's what's available, I'll do it. I got my cert in case I have to pursue system auditing as a way to pay the rent. I prefer technical/development work.
Or, are you open at this point?
My contract ends in December. I don't intend to wait that long.
The resume needs work, specifically on your most
recent positions. When would you like the resume completed?
30 days.

Comentary
1. I use a structured approach to resume writing,
consisting of 3 drafts. Draft 1 is the information
gathering draft; Draft 2 is the focusing draft; and
Draft 3 is the clean up draft.
2. I approached you resume a bit different from other
customers. Since you are employed, and have used your
resume to gain employment, then your existing resume
content has hiring appeal. So, your resume does not
need a complete overhaul, rather, to improve it, the
resume needed the addition of information--more or
less a retrofit, so to speak.
What kind of info?
Well, your existing resume is written in a way very
common with technical professionals: very detailed,
technical and written for a subject matter expert.
There's nothing wrong with this. However, as you know,
lots of different people (both technical and
non-technical, human and software) are increasingly
involved in the hiring screening process. Thus, resume
content should not only be technical and detailed but
should reflect the nominality of hiring requirements
and decisions. So, the content I have added attempts
to span this breadth.
3. Objective: This is my attempt at an employment
objective. Edit and correct as you see fit.
4. Career Summary: You have a long and impressive
career record. (No flattery is intended here; just a
statement of fact.) When one has a long career record
of lots of technical detail, it is easy for the resume
reader/screener to be overwhlemed by the facts. A
career summary can help them get meaning and context
to understand you better. I have used this modified
career summary to capture as much the salient points
of your career as possible. This kind of summary
serves another function: I call it a "keyword"
reservoir. These keywords enchance the search-ability
of your resume.
Edit and correct as you see fit.
5. Employment History. In the first draft, I normally
leave much of your existing resume narratives in tact.
Instead, I focus on deepening the content of the
overall section.
I also add an Achievements section to your most
current positions. The achievements bounce off the
delineated job tasks in such a way that gives the
reader "organizational" meaning to your work. This
aids in elevating reader interest.
Finally, I realize that a couple of the positions were
resume fillers. That's fine. Then try to correct both
the job tasks and the achievements as if you were in
that kind of position.
6. The rest of the resume is self-explanatory.
If you have any questions, feel free to contact me.

Randy,
Looks great. I added the achievements per your suggestion.
Let me now what you think.

[name],
I received your Draft 1 updates. Just what I wanted to
see. Thanks for your prompt response.
I will get you draft 2 by Tuesday (October 25).
Just by looking at your updates, it appears that Draft
2 will be the final draft. Sometimes the process does
not need 3 drafts and sometimes it needs more than
three. Your resume has progressed rather quickly.
Thanks for the business.

Subject: RE: apply now
Randall,
FYI...I did apply for this job and received some positive feedback.
They said that I was qualified for 1 or more positions, but the
selection process won't start until October time frame. Since I am
still 7 months out from being available to start working, I think my
chances are pretty slim. However, I just went through a transition
assistance program class and personally spoke with the Titan headhunter
here in [location]. He said that my resume looks great and to get it to
him (already did), but he said he would not even consider me until
around the first of the new year. I guess this is what is to be
expected, but it sure would be nice to get something lined up before I
strip the military uniform and put on a suit.
I am still interested in drafting a Secure
Communications/Telecommunications resume, so please let me know what I
need to do to get this one started. Anyhow, I appreciate your help and
will keep you posted on how things are going if you are interested.

Well, it's official--I have not officially accepted since two other positions are still in the consideration stage--but the GM of [company] called and has already tendered an offer on paper. They had a base salary range of which I insisted the top of the scale and they agreed, along with the monthly bonus potential and percentage of commissions from the sales force I'll be managing. It will become [parent company] in 9-12 months which offers even more potential, not to mention exceptional benefits. [parent company] is a really good company to work for and international---certainly upward mobility potential!
I confess I have been more interested in the PR Director of [another company] position in [location], but I am most impressed by the people I've been dealing with across the board with this job. It's not as much money base, but there is more unlimited potential and certainly the benefits package more than evens the difference base salary wise. Plus [another company] is salaried period. It's also not a bad deal at all with a position only a few miles away rather than rush hour commutes.
Of course, before I sign anything, I'll inform the other two of this latest development to gauge their response. But I have to admit, a nice boss and good people to work with along with not having to deal with the commuter nightmare traffic are good things. The other two require the commute (the other is [location]) while I wouldn't even have to get on the interstate with [company]. That's attractive!
Yes, I guess I am leaning toward [company/parent company].

Wow, you are not messing around, you are great. Thank you for your input and I will def. try this on my own. I am so suprised that this is so technical. I really appreciate all of your help. You are very good at what you do.

Randall,
Just to let you know I finally got a job!!! and it was totally due to the resume that you did for me.

Dear Sir,
I contacted you on 1 February about my job search.
You have sent me several drafts of the "new" resume.
At the same time I have been continuing to apply for positions in Columbus.
I sent in one the other day for a flight-following position with an Air Freight company. I used a version of the new resume that you had sent.
The founder of the company called me yesterday and interviewed me over the phone. He called back again today and said, "When can you be here?"
The position is back in aviation and that made my day!
I can't tell you how I feel, because it still has not quite sunk in yet!
36 days and I have secured a position. You did it Sir!
Thank You, and my family Thanks you.
Very Respectfully,
C.L. U.S. Air Force

I have been posting "my old" resume all
over
with negative responses or no response. When I sent the 2nd draft for
this
job proposal the employers response was immediate and positive. She
told me
what I wanted to hear, "your resume is impressive". I KNOW I have impressive skills, I
KNOW I
can do an outstanding job I just couldn't get the message across. Your
(militaryjobhunt) rewrite did the trick. I think that it highlights my
skills, hits all the high points and focuses the resume towards HR
which is
what I am good at.
You are 100% correct resume templates do not work,
headhunters do not work, resume mills do not work because the are not
focusing on me, my skills and the job market requirements I am skilled
for.
I hope that when you
contact
the Navy Counselor community that they respond and see the benefit your services.
I can
not thank you enough for the help and insight you have given me, I am
refreshed and ready to land that new career. Keep writing those
articles
since that is how I found you to start with. I have read the final
three
version of my resume and could not be more pleased, I have already
posted
the long one on my government sites and hope to be working soon. thank
you
again.

I thought I had a pretty good idea how to do this [resume] myself, but
even the first draft [Randall did for me] blew me away. This resume is sure to get results. I can't wait to get close enough to start sending them out. I have already posted it on websites, (with hits!) Thanks for a professional job, and proper, professional communication during the process.(Retiring to Montana in October :-)

Randall, Finally got a chance to really look over my resume, looks great overall. Since all the versions are essentially the same except length, I made a few minor changes to the long version only. I would appreciate your input on how it reads. Other than that i believe I'm definitely satisfied with the finished product. Talk to you soon.

Hello Randall, Thank You for your time and response,
Yes my friend does know that military people make good employees, he knew even before I told him. He's not opposed to "non-military types" it's jsut that he's in a military town and would like to have them. You gave us a lot to chew on here, let us kick this around and get back.
Thanks.

Despite following Monsters resume guidelines diligently, I hadnt even gotten a nibble. Randall worked with me for 1 week re-directing my resume. I posted the resume on Monster; within 24 hours, I had an employer call me. In fact, the employer mentioned that I had a strong resume.

12.10.04 Looking great.
Do you do ther resumes besides military? I showed my first draft to my
family and they loved it.
Thanks G.L. U.S. Navy, California
10.8.04 Thanks for the inputs! You put more research into this than I would
have
expected. I will de-aerospace my resume, and repost on Michigan Talent
Board website for bites. M.L. U.S. Air Force, Louisiana
10.7.04 You have definitely given me more advice in this message than I have
been
able to get through most of my contacts. F.S. U.S.Marine Corps, Townsend, MA
10.4.04 Thank you very much for your upfront assessment of my resume and yes i would like to find out mor about having you do a rewrite of my resume. R.P. U.S. Navy, Bradenton, FL
8.4.04 Thanks for your advice. You grasped the situation correctly and gave me some good alternatives to look at. Right now, I'll following the path you took, actively job hunt while still at my present employer. Fortunately, I'm on the
corporate payroll and my current 'boss' doesn't pay my salary. He's
aware of my plans and actually told me that I could stay on with him for a
reasonable amount of time until either I find a job or corporate gives
me a 'move or leave' ultimatum. Also, a couple more leads have popped
up in the last day so between these two factors I feel I have a bit
more breathing room.
Thanks again for your advice as well as the articles you put out on
MilitaryHire; now that I've started reading them I'll continue to check
out the website even after I've finished my current job hunt. S.G. U.S. Air Force, Charlotte, NC
6.26.04 For the last few days I've been researching and looking into the information you listed for me. Thank you for all the helpful leads! I've sent in for quite a few and I'm well on my way!!! I have recommended you to a few of my friends who are also ending their mililary career! Thank you Randall, Everything looks really good. You did a good job! J.L. U.S. Navy, Jacksonville, FL
6.24.04 Thank-you for the hard work you put into helping me with my resume and cover letter. I'm satisfied with both. Wish me luck and will let you know how the job hunt went. I'm still here in Puerto Rico, but will be moving stateside by end of July. Good luck to you too on your business. Again, your help is appreciated. E.R. U.S. Army, Texas
6.23.04 WOW! I really like this one. I think this addressed everything that I was looking for. I want to thank you for all the work you have done on
helping me obtain employment. D.S. U.S. Air Force, New Mexico
5.23.04 Randall, The resume looks so good. Thank you so much for all the work you did. I tried to make a resume for myself but I couldn't get rid of all that
military jargon. Thank you again. M.G. U.S. Army, RSGS, SHAPE, Belgium.
I believe you've spent plenty of time on my resume for the money I've spent. You are providing a great service to veterans at a very low cost. Once again thanks. M.B. US Air Force
Randall, I am very satisfied with what you have done with the resume. I am especially pleased with the cover letter, as it highlights the areas that I wanted to bring attention to. Thanks so very much for your assistance. A.P. US Army
You helped calm and reassure me in my job search and everything seems to be falling in to place. Now I just have to worry about which [job offer] to take, housing, and salary negotiation. I appreciate it. M.S. US Army
Randall, Thanks for helping me "over the hump". I'm sure you will hear from
me in the future with other questions. Have a good day. G.C. U.S. Coast Guard
Randall, Thanks. You're awesome. Thanks for your honesty, hard to find now-a-days, keep up the good working helping veterans, and once I get settled I plan on doing the same! A. G. U.S. Army
Randall, Thank you for the advice. I will pursue the substitute teacher certification and look for a job so that I can start my Masters program. I forgot to say that I really did like your article and look forward to reading more that you have to say. Take Care and have a great New Year. H.B. U.S. Air Force
